Why do my brakes squeal?

Why do my brakes squeal?

If you hit the brakes and noises hit your ears, we are here to help! Not all brake noises are major but should be assessed by one of our Certified Mechanics to ensure your safety. Some of the less major, usual suspects for Brake Noise are:

  • Moisture: You may hear some Brake Noise in the mornings or after rain or snow. Moisture will collect on the Brake Pads and Brake Rotors causing a temporary Brake Squeal. The moisture will evaporate after a bit of driving and Braking.
  • Road Debris: Debris from the roads, like rocks or sand, get wedged between the Brake Pad and Rotor. This creates a grinding or scraping sound. Our Brake Service may be the answer, and will prolong the life of the Brake Pads & Rotors. We love saving you money with our Automotive Maintenance Services!
  • Worn Brake Pads: Brake Pads have a wear indicator that scrapes against the Brake Rotor when they get worn down. This Brake Noise acts as a built-in safety mechanism to alert you it's time to Replace Brake Pads and Rotors.
  • Brake Calipers: Brake Calipers wear over time and road debris can cause them to stick. A Stuck Brake Caliper causes continuous friction between the Brake Pad & Rotor. This creates a Grinding Brake Noise and can cause damage when ignored.

What to do when you hear Brake Noises: let us silence the symphony! When you start to hear Brake Noises it’s time to be proactive. This ensures your safety and can save you money. Our Certified Technicians will inspect your Full Braking System, including Brake Pads, Rotors and Calipers.

Brake Noises can be unsettling, but they're not always a reason to panic. Educating our customers helps them understand the causes, when to take action, and how we keep their Brakes healthy!
